Closure of ECN500

Early this week Army directed that ECN500 entry is to be closed to all new applicants.

Apparently due to the high number of candidates and the record target achievement so far this year Army is having a hard time assigning ECN500 applicants to a job after they have completed Kapooka.

Anyone in the system who has been offered an ECN500 position will still be enlisted as ECN500 but all other applicants will have to change to another preference.

All future ECN500 positions will be closed off.

Note it is understood that ECN500 has only been closed off for Full Time entry. It is still available for Gap Year entry.

Commando Re-Opened!!

Hot off the press - the Commando intake has been pushed back to 6 April 2010!

Commando Paper Selection Boards were supposed to be starting mid October ready for an end of year intake and as a result the cutoff date for candidate to be interviewed at DFR for Commando was Friday 25 September. Because the Kapooka intake date has been pushed back to April the Paper Selection Board has been pushed back to late January/early February and as a result DFR can interview more candidates for Commando.

If you are interested in Commando but didn't get interviewed in time you now have more time so make sure you call 131902 and talk to your Case Manager about getting an assessment day.

Change to Citizenship Requirements

The ADF has changed it entry requirements so that only Australian Citizens can serve in the ADF.

It used to be that people who were Permanent Residents of Australia could also serve but that has now changed. Non-Australians can be appointed or enlisted into the ADF but must be eligible and apply for Australian Citizenship at the first opportunity. Those not granted citizenship will be discharged.

Obviously considering the nature of employment it is important for the ADF to positively identify people prior to enlistment or appointment. This policy change is in line with ensuring this can be done correctly. The change also meets the requirements of the Australian Citizenship Act 2007.

An Australian Citizen is defined as:

a person born in Australia before 20 August 1986 becomes an Australian citizen by birth (unless one parent was entitled to diplomatic privileges and immunities or was a consular officer of a foreign country); or

a person born in Australia on or after 20 August 1986 becomes an Australian citizen by birth if at least one parent is an Australian citizen or a permanent resident at the time of the person’s birth; or

a person born in Australia to parents who are not permanent residents or Australian citizens acquires Australian citizenship automatically on his or her 10th birthday provided the child is ordinarily resident in Australia. Children born in Australia to foreign diplomats do not acquire Australian citizenship; or

a person born overseas to an Australian citizen parent, and who has been registered as an Australian citizen under the Act; or

a person legally adopted in Australia by an Australian citizen, and who was present in Australia as a permanent resident at the time of adoption; or

a person having applied for, and been granted, Australian citizenship under the Act.

Chandler Macleod Terminates Recruiting Contract with Defence

Today Chandler Macleod announced to its staff that it has reached an agreement with Defence to terminate the recruiting services contract.

Last year Chandler Macleod was announced as the new service provider to replace Manpower in the provision of recruiting services for the Australian Defence Force. In February this year Chandler Macleod assumed full responsibility of this contract.

Since then there have been a number of issues that Chandler Macleod and Defence have been working through. It is understood that Chandler Macleod has reached the decision to terminate the contract for their own commercial reasons.

Chandler Macleod will continue to provide recruiting services until Defence finalising a transition to a new service provider. It is expected that the transition will occur between late October 2009 and 1 February 2010.

An ASX report shows that Chandler Macleod's financial losses have increased $13.3 million. Full report here.
